Sustainable and integrated master plan to enhance lifecycle of stakeholders

FIDIC
Solution proposed by:
FIDIC
In a Nutshell:
Integrating industry and employee settlement to enhance economic and social lifecycle of stakeholders which will in turn support higher operational productivity and reduces the risks of social conflict.
Where and When:
Implemented in master plans of industrial park, settlements for mining and plantations, ecotourism/resorts in the islands of Sumatera, Kalimantan, Lombok and Java, Indonesia
Challenges:
There were often repeated cases of industry/tourism with initial success and profit but at the cost of degrading living conditions in the surrounding areas which within time eventually posed a social and economical risk to the industry and unhealthy/unsanitary conditions for the residents
Innovation:
This method encourages an integrated approach by considering the internal and external stakeholders of the industry/ecotourism with the objective of enhancing the lifecycle of the surrounding community so they will in turn support the production development of the industry
Concept:
1) Sustainable infrastructure such as power & transportation to support operational activities and effective manpower movement for within the industrial sector and also from the residential area. 2) Flood management studies, as Indonesia goes through half a year of wet season with high rain intensity. 3) Integrated Housing and Lifelihood Facilities for workers and their family, by having a properly designed settlement reducing the number of sporadic and unorganized settlements which can inadequate living conditions and in time be a source of conflict for the industry. 4) Ecotourism destination which embraces the local community and ecological surroundings instead of providing isolation and exclusive activities
Impacts:
Higher productivity and longevity for the industry. Happier and satisfied stakeholders, as they can live in a more structured and sanitary environment with a work place than can be easily accessed from their residence. Socially and economically thriving surrounding areas reduces risk of external conflict for industries.
