Habitat for Humanity
Solution proposed by:
Psy – Cu – Lar team Gadjah Mada University
In a Nutshell:
The combination of residential concept which raising three integrated themes of Psychology, Culture and Architecture elements on its application as a real solution to create a decent order housing system in the urban context that accentuate the humanist point of a home building.
Where and When:
Psy - Cu - Lar's concept has been socialized during 3 months project of raising the awareness of people in Yogyakarta city of Indonesia about urban problem on housing issues during February - April 2016 and now it will be implemented step by step on Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Challenges:
Psy - Cu - Lar was proposed because there are about 33 million people in Indonesia are still lived on the Slum area. Even they're more prefer to live beside the river than should live properly on village. The awareness of Indonesia people about Urban context problem’s still low and under the economic, education, social, and health issues that made our goal by the socialization was the lack of response and considedered as a new "Trouble maker" for adding the "New problem" for Indonesia. Because Indonesia people still faced that urban context problems, and it wasn't categorized as the problem.
Innovation:
Our Psy – Cu – Lar project provides a new perspective of the context of Architecture, social and cultural paradigms that included in the contextual urban creative ways in which made by young people of Indonesia that not only can do a critics, but also demonstrated significantly in real action. We tried to give solution with creative models that made youth as the think tank of the agent of change in housing issues on Urban contextual on Asia Pacific region, especially on Indonesia (Yogyakarta).
Concept:
Psychology concept brought in project emphasizes the addition of humanist point on housing issues in urban context due to the urban context can't be separated from element that play a main role, namely human. In terms of cultural context, the existence of city always closely linked with culture. The cultural context is large. However, in this project, we created the concept of how the house depicts a local culture which represent the indigeneous of that place. For that to happen a cultural transfer learning occurs in a smallest sub-group named family. And in terms of architecture, the construction of buildings in the urban world is now developing not considering about the issues that actually still related with urban context. Among them, there are about the environment and can't be denied, the construction of a house in the present era is also in contact with the social bulkhead that make the people who live inside of it apart with the world outside. From there, our project provides a grand design of how these things can be prevented by using an approach that modern architecture without reducing the value and essence of which should be hold in the social state of society.
Description:
Our housing solutions on urban context that defined from Psy - Cu - Lar concept are, the first is how we understand and try to think about the need of space on home which is not only as place to gather up, but also for the place where cultural and attachment transfer learning on the family happens. Second, facilitate home with an entertainment, pray, and also green space facilities that non only for the one who lived on it, but also for social enviroment. Third, try to implement the concept of "Go Green & Sustainable Living" for the creation of a life that oriented for continuity of human existance. Fourth, left the part are in home as a playground for kids that have a function to train the motoric and social awareness since kids. And the last, do not let the air conditioner controls the home's athmosphere, the need of sunlight and fresh air in the morning can release the bluelight energy that increase the spirit and positive vibes to start a day.
Impacts:
Impact provided through this project is how to giving the intellectual ackonowledge to the people of Indonesia, Yogyakarta precisely to be more aware and responsive regarding urban issues which stems from problems that occur in the home problems. So far, we have been doing social activities that involved the community and local people to join in our project that hopefully it can be a process of learning by doing on a regular basis and gradually at a time in the future. Contributions we have given to the sustainability of cities has reached the international level such as Habitat for Humanity and the United Nations in the field of urban issues and the role of youth in context
